LIN, L.; DEMIRBILEK, Z., and MASE, H., 2011. Recent Capabilities of CMS-Wave: A Coastal Wave Model for Inlets and Navigation Projects. In: Roberts, T.M., Rosati, J.D., and Wang, P. (eds.), Proceedings, Symposium to Honor Dr. Nicholas C. Kraus, Journal of Coastal Research, Special Issue, No. 59, pp. 7-14. West Palm Beach (Florida), ISSN 0749-0208. The Coastal Inlets Research Program (CIRP) of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory (CHL) has developed a nearshore spectral wave transformation numerical model to address needs of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) navigation projects. The model is called CMSWave and is part of Coastal Modeling System (CMS) for wave estimates in the vicinity of coastal and estuarine navigation channels. It can simulate important wave processes at coastal inlets including wave diffraction, refraction, reflection, wave breaking and dissipation mechanisms, wave-current interaction, and wave generation and growth. This paper describes recent improvements in CMS-Wave that include semi-empirical estimates of wave run-up and overtopping, nonlinear wave-wave interactions, and wave dissipation over muddy bottoms. CMS-Wave may be used with nested grids and variable rectangular cells in a rapid mode to assimilate full-plane wave generation for circulation and sediment transport models. A brief description of these recent capabilities is provided. ADDITIONAL INDEX WORDS: Navigation, coastal inlets, numerical wave modeling, nearshore wave processes.

Coastal walls (dyke) are one of the methods of protecting the coast against coastal erosion and destructive forces of waves. The purpose of this study is to simulate the wave collision with the coastal dyke and compare the results with the laboratory model. Open FOAM open source software and K-ω SST turbulence model were used to simulate the amount of wave consumed by the coastal dyke. Taking i...
متن کاملSimulation of Wave Propagation over Coastal Structures Using WCSPH Method
In this paper a space-averaged Navier–Stokes approach was deployed to simulate the wave propagation over coastal structures. The developed model is based on the smoothed particle hydrodynamic (SPH) method which is a pure Lagrangian approach and can handle large deformations of the free surface with high accuracy. In this study, the large eddy simulation (LES) turbulent model was coupled with th...

In this study, the capabilities of WAWEWATCH-III and MIKE21-SW for predicting the characteristics ofwind-generated waves in Hormuz Strait are evaluated. The numerical models have been set up using Input data including GFS wind with 5° spatial resolution and 6 hours time intervals, along with the ETOPO1 bathymetry data with 2 arc-minute spatial resolutions. The results of the two model simulatio...

In the Tsunami of Dec. 26, 2004, although there was a large distance between the earthquake center of Indian Ocean and coastal cities of Iran, the Tsunami waves brought some damages in Chabahar coast. This means that if the earthquake center was closer to Iran, Iran’s coastal regions would have confronted serious danger... In the present study, we used ComMIT software (Community Model Int...
